What do you do when life comes at you like a speeding bullet train?
Chronic Illness is not a business stopper, but…
This year I had a relapse that surprised me and my virtual assistant clients for a loop. I was knocked out for almost 3 months. It happened so quickly and without warning that my clients were left hanging.
This SHOULD NOT happen. I’ve been sick for a while. I should know better, but I got comfortable with not having to deal with this particular issue for almost 10 years now. Chronic illness is like that.
Usually, when I get sick I feel guilty about it. It takes me a little bit to get back in the flow of things, my self-esteem (fragile as it is) is kicked to the curb, and I’m self-conscious about facing the responsibility I have toward those left hanging.
Illness is nothing to be ashamed about. I need to repeat this to myself, not ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist. People with illnesses and disabilities work. Period.

What Will I Do Now?
I will set up contract V.A.’s to take over when flare-ups or other unexpected challenges occur regarding my health.
I now have an agreement with my husband that when (IF) I end up in the hospital again, he will notify my support team so clients are notified of my absence. This team will then be on active duty ^_^ until my return.
